How we calculate
Our index: each day’s link is the geometric mean of page-price ratios for plans measured on both dates, in the page’s own currency and billing period, so exchange-rate moves are excluded; the first observed date is 100.
Comparison rule: we compare changes over the same calendar period, never levels with different base years. The first comparison is one full calendar month of our index against the official monthly change for that month; a 12-month comparison needs twelve full months. Until then, this page shows the official figures without a comparison.
