Methodology: SaaS pricing tracker

SaaS pricing tracker

Conditions

What we track. Software (SaaS) plans by billing period: monthly and annual prices, and promotional prices as separate records. What the price is charged per (user, member, seat or account) is recorded with each plan.

What counts as a value. The price the vendor's public pricing page shows for the named plan and billing period, quoted with the date we read it. Prices are shown per month: an annual total divided by twelve is our calculation (Calculated); a monthly equivalent the page itself shows for annual billing is taken as shown. Where the page uses another currency, US dollars are our conversion at the ECB reference rate of the date shown; the page's own price and currency are kept.

What the plan includes. Where a card shows the billing unit (per user, per seat, per member, or per month for one account), a minimum number of seats, the step in which seats are added, or how many users are included, every line is the vendor's own wording from the same pricing page we read for the price, quoted verbatim (up to 200 characters) with the date of that reading. We do not take these from reviews or other sites, and we do not fill gaps: what the page does not say is shown as "not stated on the pricing page". Plan contents are published as stated, not measured.

What it is not. A list price, not an invoice: taxes, overages, extra seats and conditional promotions can change what you pay. Where the page says whether tax is included, we say so; where it does not, we do not assume either way.

When a value is Unknown. When the page shows no price for the plan and period, the billing period or offer cannot be told apart without doubt, or no exchange rate is available for the date. A value we have not recorded is shown as Unknown, never as zero.

How often. Every plan is read once a day.

SaaS Price Change Watch. The share of plans whose price changed over 30 or 90 days, among plans with comparable readings near both ends of the window, with the number of plans counted (N). Prices are compared in the page currency, so exchange-rate moves do not count as price changes. With fewer than two comparable dates the value stays Unknown.
